STORM TORNADO SHELTER - $4900 (HICKORY, NC) installed within a 50 mile radius
Choose the Most Durable, "CONCRETE SHELTERS", Survive Todays Storm and be Ready for the One Tomorrow Our in-ground model concrete shelter has an approximate 6' x 8' interior. The ceiling height inside is 6'2" and the shelter is rated for 8 plus people. Many shelters of this model were in the paths of the recent terrible storms that ravaged many of the Midwest states and our own state of North Carolina. One of those shelters ended up with more than 20 people inside. This model is also the shelter of choice for President Bush on his Crawford, Texas ranch.
Built and installed to the guidelines of FEMA 320 and ICC/NSSA Standard For The Design And Construction of Storm Shelters (ICC-500-2008)
The shelter is constructed of 6,000 PSI concrete and primary reinforcing is 3/8" rebar throughout the entire unit. The shelter weighs approximately 12,800 pounds. The shelter is equipped with a screened turbine vent, screened air intake, both with an internal protective debris shield. The unit also includes a steel fixed step ladder access.
Our Shelter Door has been tested by the Wind Science and Engineering Research Center, Debris Impact Test Facility, at Texas Tech University. The impact tests were successful and the door therefore meets the debris impact guidelines of FEMA 320 and ICC-500 for the 100-mph impacts produced by a missile propelled by a 250-mph tornado. These tests were consistent with the guidelines of FEMA-320, "Taking Shelter from the Storm" and ICC-500.
Our Shelters are Installed by Certified Installers
Only installers that have successfully completed our installation workshop will be certified and allowed to install our shelters. This is to insure proper installation according to FEMA 320 and ICC-500 standards.
Shelters are installed approximately 4½ feet in the ground, with approximately 2 feet remaining above grade. The dirt from the excavation is then filled around the above-grade portion on three sides creating a shielding soil cover mound. Normal installation can be completed in approximately four hours.
Our doors are bolt in place, instead of poured in place and there are reasons for that.
Complete door assembly:
*Attaches with 14-1/2" bolts and cast in concrete inserts
*Bolts to the outside surface, elevating the door to prevent water infiltration
*Quick removal and reinstallation for maintenance such as painting/color change or service so you can survive today's storm
and be ready for one tomorrow.
*Eliminates need for total shelter top replacement if door damage occurs saving precious time and money.
